What is a loading metre?

The loading metre (LDM) states how much of the length of the loading space a shipment occupies – measured across the full width. The calculation uses a loading width of 2.4 m: length × width of the load carrier ÷ 2.4 gives the loading metres per floor position. If the load can be stacked, two or three load carriers share one floor position.

LDM = Length × width ÷ 2.4 m

Examples

  • 1 Euro pallet (120 × 80 cm): 1.2 × 0.8 ÷ 2.4 = 0.4 LDM
  • 33 Euro pallets, not stackable: 33 × 0.4 = 13.2 LDM
  • 10 industrial pallets (120 × 100 cm): 10 × 1.2 × 1.0 ÷ 2.4 = 5.0 LDM
  • 12 Euro pallets, stackable two high: 6 floor positions × 0.4 = 2.4 LDM

Standard sizes of load carriers

Load carrier Length × width Loading metres per floor position
Euro pallet 120 × 80 cm 0.40
Industrial pallet 120 × 100 cm 0.50
Mesh pallet 124 × 84 cm 0.43

Length × width ÷ 2.4 m loading width; when stacked, two or three load carriers share one floor position.
